We cut the stone ourselves
Every countertop we sell is templated, cut, polished and installed by our own shop on Bridgeway Avenue. No subcontractors. No middleman markup. One company on the phone from first measurement to final walkthrough.
You are buying from the shop that runs the saw
There are three ways to buy a countertop in Columbus. A big box store sells you a package and hands the work to a fabricator you never meet. A standard countertop shop cuts the stone itself but orders your slab in from a distributor's yard. We hold a thousand slabs on our own floor and cut every one of them here.
| Big box store | Standard countertop shop | Distinctive Kitchen | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who cuts your stone | A subcontracted fabricator you never meet | Their own shop, usually one crew | Our own shop, running five to ten installs a day |
| Choosing the slab | A sample chip on a display board | Photos of slabs held at a distributor's yard | Walk a thousand slabs on site and tag yours |
| Pricing | A package price, hard to itemise | Quote on request | Published per square foot, online, before you call |
| Edge profiles | Basic edge included, the rest cost extra | Ogee and bevel usually carry an upcharge | All six profiles, no upcharge on any of them |
| Seam placement | Decided in a shop you never speak to | Decided at the saw, after you have paid | Shown on a photo of your slab for approval first |
| Minimum job | Package minimums apply | Commonly 25 to 40 square feet | None β a single vanity is a real job here |
| Lead time | Several weeks, set by the subcontractor's queue | Depends on when the slab arrives | About ten days when your slab is on our floor |
| If something is wrong | The store, then the subcontractor, then back again | Depends who picks up the phone | The crew that built your tops comes back |
Breton builds much of the stone-processing equipment this industry runs on. They named our Columbus facility their North American showroom.
Template to installed in about ten days
That is the schedule when your slab is already on our floor and the cabinets are ready on template day. Special orders, heavy edge work and high cutout counts add time β we tell you which day you are on at every stage, and nothing goes on the saw until you approve the layout.
- Day 1 Β· Showroom
Tag your slab
Walk the yard with a designer. Lock the edge profile, sink and cutouts, and leave with a written estimate.
- Day 2 Β· Your home
Digital template
We measure installed cabinets, not drawings. Sink and cooktop need to be on site.
- Day 3 Β· Shop
Layout approval
Your pieces are laid onto a photo of your actual slab. You see where the veining lands and where the seams fall before anything is cut.
- Days 4β8 Β· Floor
Cut, edge, polish
Breton machinery and waterjet cutting, then edge profiling and hand polish. Sink openings are shaped here, not improvised in your kitchen.
- Days 9β10 Β· Your home
Set and walk
Our own crews set the tops, join the seams and seal natural stone, then walk the job with you. We run five to ten installations a day, so your date does not depend on one truck being free.
What the number covers, line by line
Countertop quotes go wrong when scope is vague. Here is the split, so you can compare us against anyone else item by item.

| On-site digital templating | Included | Measured from installed cabinets, not drawings |
| Slab layout for approval | Included | Seam and vein placement shown before cutting |
| Sink and cooktop cutouts | Included | Shaped and finished in the shop |
| Edge profiles | Included | All six profiles below carry no upcharge |
| Seam joining | Included | Colour-matched adhesive |

| Delivery and installation | Included | Our own crews, not a subcontractor |
| Tear-out and disposal of old tops | Add-on | We do it β quoted as a separate line |
| Plumbing disconnect and reconnect | Add-on | We do it β quoted as a separate line |
| Backsplash tile setting | Add-on | Tile we install is covered by the same warranty |

| Profile | Reads as |
|---|---|
| Pencil (eased) | The quietest option β a barely softened square edge |
| Round Over | A single soft radius, forgiving on a busy kitchen |
| Double Round Over | Radius top and bottom, reads thicker and softer |
| Bevel | One flat chamfer, crisp and modern |
| Double Bevel | Chamfer top and bottom, more shadow line |
| Ogee | The traditional S-curve, at home with detailed cabinetry |
Eight surfaces, one shop floor
Each one behaves differently under tooling. Quartz cannot take the heat natural stone shrugs off. Quartzite is hard enough to eat through blades. Porcelain chips if the feed rate is wrong. Running all of them for three decades is why the schedule holds.

Solid surface is where this shop started β we were the first certified Corian fabricator in Ohio, and still cut it for commercial and multi-family jobs.
Installing across Central Ohio
We fabricate for jobs across Ohio. The fastest turnaround sits inside about thirty miles of the shop on Bridgeway Avenue β close enough that template day and install day can be booked back to back.
Homeowners and trade, on different terms
One kitchen, done properly. Yard selection and a fixed written estimate.
Homeowners βSchedule-driven work with priority fabrication and trade pricing.
Builders βRepeat unit counts, stock colours held in volume, staged delivery.
Developers βWhite-label fabrication behind your showroom, with fast estimating.
Dealers βStraight answers about fabrication
Can you install countertops without seams?
Only if every run fits inside one slab. A slab arrives at a fixed size β the one drawn above is 126 by 63 inches β so a long L-shaped kitchen or a large island almost always needs at least one join.
What matters is where the seam goes. We place them where they are structurally sound and visually quiet, away from the middle of a sink cutout and where the pattern lets them disappear. You see the planned locations on your layout before we cut, and you can ask us to move them.
Do I need to be home for template day and install day?
Someone over eighteen has to let the crew in and be reachable for decisions on both. Templating takes an hour or two. Installation runs longer and is loud, so plan for the kitchen to be out of use.
What has to be ready before you can template?
Cabinets installed, level and secured β we measure what is in the room, not what is on the drawing. Sink, cooktop and faucet on site so cutouts match the real hardware.
Existing tops stay in place for templating. They have to come off before install day β we can tear them out and haul them away as a separate line on your quote, or you can handle it yourself.
Why does the estimate change after templating?
The showroom number uses your measurements. The template uses ours, and real cabinets are rarely square. Square footage can move a few feet either way, and an added cutout or edge detail shifts it further.
We reissue the estimate after templating, and nothing goes on the saw until you approve it.
Can I buy a slab without fabrication?
Yes. You can buy a slab outright from our inventory and take it to your own fabricator, or pick up finished tops from the shop rather than paying for delivery.
Walk the yard, tag what you want, and we will price it per square foot the same way it is listed online. Browse the slabs in stock.
What happens if something is wrong after installation?
Everything we install β countertops, cabinets, tile and sinks β carries a one year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, running from the installation date. We repair or replace at our discretion, with no charge for labour or materials. The warranty covers the original purchaser and does not transfer with the house.
It does not cover scratches, burns or chips that happen after we leave, nor stains, water damage or misuse. Natural stone and wood vary in colour and texture by nature, so that variation is not treated as a defect either.
Tell us in writing within thirty days of spotting a problem, keep your proof of purchase, and let us come inspect it. The crew that built your tops is the crew that comes back. Read the full warranty.
Is there a minimum job size?
No. A single bathroom vanity is a real job here, and you are welcome to collect finished tops from the shop instead of paying for delivery.
For small pieces it is worth checking the remnant yard first β same shop, same fabrication, cut from what is left of full slabs at a lower price per square foot.
Reviews from Central Ohio kitchens
Bring rough measurements. Leave with a real number.
Approximate dimensions and a photo of the kitchen are enough to open an estimate. Walk the yard on the same visit and tag the slab you want.
